Out on Lake Austin, everybody waves: boaters, fishermen, surfers, foilers, the neighbor on the next dock. This is ours. A Texas-shaped hand flashing peace, embroidered on the front of a black-and-white rope cap.
The rope cap is the lake hat. Braided rope on the bill, mid-profile structure, a sweatband that earns its keep in August. It goes on at the ramp and comes off at dinner.
Wear it on the water. Wave back.
